Textile effluent screen: a 7.2× COD exceedance and a REJECT call, human-gated (illustrative)
A textile dyehouse asked whether its trade effluent clears Singapore PUB limits and whether to green-light a go-ahead. AquaMind V2 flagged three confirmed exceedances — COD at 7.2× the limit, TSS over 3×, and out-of-range pH — plus a wide block of undeclared metals, and returned a NON-COMPLIANT posture with a REJECT recommendation, mandatorily held for human sign-off as a food-safety/compliance call. Illustrative compliance screen on a fictional facility, not a legal determination.
Summary
Against the Singapore PUB Trade Effluent (watercourse) parameters, AquaMind V2 screened the dyehouse's declared effluent and found a multi-parameter, multi-fold exceedance pattern compounded by a large set of undeclared parameters. Under the AquaMind safety order, a compliance call ranks at the top and is mandatorily human-gated — the REJECT recommendation carries requires_human_signoff and does not auto-execute.
Findings
Confirmed exceedances
COD 720 mg/L vs a 100 mg/L limit — a 7.2× exceedance and the most severe finding. TSS 160 mg/L vs 50 mg/L — over 3×. pH 9.6 — outside the 6.0–9.0 range. Temperature (42°C vs 45°C) is the only clean pass.
A wide unresolved block is itself a risk
BOD and oil & grease were undeclared, and the full heavy-metals panel (cadmium, chromium, copper, nickel, lead, zinc, arsenic, mercury) came in null — for a textile dyeing stream where dye/mordant metals are plausible, this breadth of 'unknown' is a material regulatory risk, not a neutral gap.
What the screen is — and is not
A deterministic exceedance screen against declared values and real PUB parameters, not an adjudicated legal verdict. It is a first-pass risk weighing that routes the decision to a human — the correct posture for a compliance call.
Treatment plan
- 01
Recommended decision — REJECT (subject to sign-off)
Do not attest compliance or green-light the go-ahead on the current data. Condition any future approval on a treatment upgrade that brings COD, TSS and pH into range and closes out the undeclared parameters.
- 02
Follow-up before any resubmission
Declare and test BOD, oil & grease and the full heavy-metals panel; size the COD/TSS/pH treatment gap; and re-screen with complete data before a compliance attestation is considered.
